ABOUT ME
I have always loved plants and gardens.
There is something about watching a plant grow, transform, flower, and eventually die that fills me with awe and wonder. Being outside changes me. Hiking through nature, wandering through a garden, or simply walking through an unfamiliar city makes me feel more alive, more curious, and more connected to the world around me.
I have also always loved making things.
As a child, I was less interested in traditional toys than in things I could use to make something else. That instinct has never really left me. Drawing, folding paper, gardening, designing, arranging flowers, working with my hands—these things quiet my mind. I can become completely absorbed in the process of making, sometimes losing track of everything else.
I’m fascinated by pattern and geometry. I love repetition, rhythm, order, symmetry, and the relationships between things. I see patterns everywhere—in nature, architecture, gardens, weather, and the world around us. They can be beautiful, but they can also be calming.
When I walk through a garden, I notice the plants, but I also notice the spaces between them. I notice edges, transitions, volume, texture, color, and subtle changes in hue. I’m interested in how individual elements come together to create a place—and how that place makes someone feel.
I believe a garden should give us a beautiful place to be outside. Somewhere to get lost in our thoughts. Somewhere to be close to nature, slow down, wonder, explore, or simply feel. A garden can bring peace and quiet, excitement and energy, or a little whimsy. The best ones stay with you.
Travel feeds the same curiosity. I take thousands of photographs, rarely of myself, but of places, plants, architecture, patterns, details, and the things that catch my eye. I love seeing how people live, learning about different cultures, and discovering beauty in places both familiar and completely new.
Perhaps that’s what connects the things on this site. Gardens, plants, drawing, design, photography, pattern, origami, needlepoint, and all the other things I make are different expressions of the same impulse: to look closely, to find beauty, and to create.
I believe there is goodness in people. I believe in love and forgiveness, in curiosity and kindness, and in something greater than ourselves.
And I believe there is an extraordinary amount of beauty in the world, often right in front of us.
One of the great pleasures of being alive is learning to notice it.
